NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a disproportionate assets case against a YSR Congress MLA from Andhra Pradesh – Dr Audimulapu Suresh and his wife – T H Vijaya Lakshmi, a 1994 batch IRS officer, for allegedly amassing illegal wealth worth more than Rs one crore between 2010 and 2016.
A Suresh, who himself was an Indian Railway Accounts Services (IRAS) officer and has held position of chief accounts officer in Indian railways before he resigned and joined politics, and Lakshmi, who is presently Commissioner of Income Tax in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, have been charged under prevention of corruption act by the agency.
CBI alleges that Lakshmi and Suresh have acquired assets worth Rs 5.95 crore presently as against their income of Rs 4.84 crore, which is disproportionate to the tune of Rs 1.10 crore. “The DA is 22.86 percent of the income earned by them, which they cannot satisfactorily account for,” says CBI.
