HYDERABAD: A sessions court acquitted 10 accused in a case related to a suicide bomb blast at a police building here in 2005 on Thursday. Apart from the suicide bomber, a home guard posted outside the office died.
Seven of the nine accused lodged in the Chanchalguda jail were released on Thursday. Two of those acquitted are also accused in the 2005 Jaunpur Shramajeevi train blast case. They will be transferred to Jaunpur prison. “We will definitely go for appeal,” Hyderabad ACP Swati Lakra told TOI .
On October 12, 2005, Dalin alias Mohtasim Billal, a HuJI member and native of Bangladesh, walked into the police building with a backpack stuffed with explosives, including ammonium nitrate, and blew himself up. He was accompanied by one Mohammad Abdul Kaleem, who left the scene after the blast. Kaleem, now acquitted, was the alleged key conspirator.
The attack was planned to avenge the death of Hyderabadi youth Mujahid Saleem, who was killed in firing by Gujarat police outside the DGP office at Lakdikapul in 2004, a SIT official said. The Gujarat cops had come to Hyderabad to arrest a cleric in connection with the Harin Pandya murder case.
On Thursday, all the 10 accused, shielded by 50 cops, were brought to court.
