From day-to-day filing through to advising on IP strategy and due diligence, chapman+co offers the full range of patent, trade mark, and design advisory and registration services.
The firm: The firm assists a broad range of clients from SMEs to multinational corporations, and assists in obtaining registered IP rights – predominately patent and trade mark registrations – across the globe.
chapman+co also represents overseas clients in proceedings before the UK Intellectual Property Office (UK IPO), the European Patent Office (EPO) and the European Community Trade Mark Office (EUIPO). The firm was established in 2002 by its founder, Helga Chapman, and has grown to become a sizeable, specialist IP practice.
chapman+co achieves a high standard of quality in the work that it provides and invests heavily in a team capable of matching these standards. The practice provides excellent quality training to develop its patent and trade mark trainees, enabling them to progress through to qualification as UK and European patent attorneys. The patent team comprises a number of outstanding patent attorneys and trainees, with most holding doctorate qualifications in their specialist scientific field.
Types of work undertaken:
Patents: the practice as a whole tends to specialise in material science, engineering and electronic technologies, although its life science department is also developing. Each client is afforded a team comprising a fully qualified attorney, an associate and a qualified paralegal, ensuring excellent client care and responsiveness at all times.
Trade marks: advising on and protecting clients’ trade marks isn’t a sideline or add-on to its practice. It is at the heart of what it does and what it excels at. Whether a client has developed a new brand, needs to enforce its trade mark rights in an existing product or service, or requires maximum protection for the branding of a new product or service, they can be sure of talking to someone who will understand their commercial goals. The firm is a specialist intellectual property practice and because of this it employs qualified patent and trade mark attorneys who don’t profess to be generalists, just experts at protecting clients’ brands. It represents clients directly at the UK Intellectual Property Office and the European Community Trade Mark Office of OHIM (the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market). Because its trade mark attorneys advise on and protect trade marks every day, it can respond quickly and with sound commercial advice based on years of experience. It is also one of the few firms with an office near to the UKIPO in Cardiff where it regularly represents clients at hearings.
